Beyond the qualification target

The B-27 and the state POST sheets certify marksmanship. That is where a department's range calendar starts, not where it ends, because a qualification target never asks whether to shoot. The targets on this page do. Each one shows a person in a place an officer actually works: a hallway, a traffic stop, a church aisle, an office lobby. Some hold a weapon. Some hold a phone, an inhaler, or nothing at all. The officer has to read hands, posture and surroundings before the first round, and the hit is then scored against real anatomy rather than a ring. Five kinds of police training targets on this page

Shoot / no-shoot targets. Armed and unarmed versions of the same scene, so an officer cannot learn the target and skip the read. Anatomical vital-zone targets. A medically accurate overlay of the cardiac box, T-box and pelvis on a live threat, so placement is graded against what actually stops a person.
