A hostage target with the gunman stacked directly above the hostage and the pistol at her temple. It is the cleanest picture for teaching elevation control on a hostage shot.
His face is directly above hers and square to the shooter. Her raised hands are in the lower part of the picture. The pistol lies across the line between his face and hers.
A square, stacked presentation. It is the cleanest picture for teaching vertical control on a hostage shot. Hung among open threats and no-shoots, it is the shot that has to be exact.
One kill zone is printed on this target, and it is on the gunman's face.

The pistol lies between the gunman's chin and the hostage's temple, directly below the head circle. The rings give you a strict standard: hold shooters to the 3-inch or 2-inch ring once they can keep every round inside the circle. See the Range Manual on choosing and running hostage targets and on how T-box, cardiac box and A/C scoring zones compare.
Most printed targets are rectangles that have to be folded or cut to fit a silhouette backer. This one is already cut to the E-type shape: 19" x 38", made to mount on the standard 19.5" x 40" E-type backer used on military and law enforcement ranges. The person on it is printed to fill that outline, so what the shooter sees downrange is a human figure and not a sheet of paper.
The figure is printed life-size. Heads, shoulders and hands are the size they are on a real person at that distance, so sight pictures and hold-offs carry over.
Score elevation only. A hit below the circle is on the pistol or the hostage. Start close, inside 7 yards, and move back as the group earns it.
Units and agencies that train hostage rescue and active-threat response, and experienced civilian shooters working on precision under consequence.
A course of fire needs armed threats, no-shoots and hostage problems side by side. These five come from across the E-backer line:
