It is a standard shoot target for failure-to-stop drills, and the open jacket and printed shirt test whether the trainee aims at the body or at a logo.

What the Trainee Has to Work Out

The open jacket frames the chest and the red shirt gives a strong color block, but the lettering sits below the heart. The shooter has to place rounds by the collar and breastbone, not by the print.

Training Purpose

A direct armed-threat target with layered clothing. It works as a standard shoot target and as a check on whether the shooter is aiming at a logo. It belongs in any shoot / no-shoot course of fire as a clear armed threat.

Skills Reinforced

Placing shots by the collar line under an open jacket

Holding a sight picture on a fully presented pistol

Shoot / no-shoot decisions in a mixed course of fire

Looking at the hands before the face

Shot placement in the cardiac box and head circle

Kill Zones: 4-Inch Head Circle and 10-Inch Cardiac Box

Two kill zones are printed on this target. Both are placed on this figure's own anatomy, not at fixed spots on the paper, so they sit where the organs are.

Head circle. A 4-inch circle centered on the bridge of the nose at eye level, with its lower edge resting on the upper lip. Inside it are 3-inch, 2-inch and 1-inch rings. The 1-inch ring is the X-ring, used for tie-breaks and zero checks.

Cardiac box. A 10-inch square over the heart and the large vessels above it. The top edge runs across the base of the neck and the box extends down the upper chest. Concentric 8-inch, 6-inch and 4-inch squares are printed inside it, with the 4-inch square on the heart itself.

Faint by design. The lines are thin and printed in a light tone. You can see them when you walk up to score. From the firing line they disappear, so the shooter aims at a person and not at a shape.

The pistol is presented high and to the figure's right, so the head circle is clear and the cardiac box runs under the left forearm. The nested squares and rings give you several standards on one target: the outer lines for a pass, the inner ones for instructors who want more. This target is cut to that same outline at 19" x 38", so the paper covers the face of the backer and the figure fills the shape from edge to edge. Hang it the way you hang any E-type facing.

The figure is printed life-size. Heads, shoulders and hands are the size they are on a real person at that distance, so sight pictures and hold-offs carry over.

Instructor Notes

Good for failure-to-stop drills: two to the cardiac box, assess, one to the head circle. Score each zone separately. Mix it with the no-shoot and hostage designs so the shooter never knows what the next facing will be.

Who This Target Is For

Agencies and units that already shoot E-type silhouettes and want a person on them.
